- Dabi AKA Toya Todoroki as he stomps on Keigo Takami
Description
Azure Flames is a free-to-play character in Heroes Battlegrounds, based on Toya Todoroki, also known as Dabi. He is the third character added to the game and the elder brother of Split Ice. Driven by hatred, this character utilizes a mix of close-to-long-range combat tactics. While his base damage output is relatively low, he possesses excellent combo potential and spam capabilities. Azure Flames arguably has one of the most potent Ultimates, dealing significant damage with strong combo opportunities. Players can master this character to unlock Mastered Azure FlamesMastered Azure Flames.
Achieving Mastered Azure FlamesMastered Azure Flames requires gaining mastery. Mastery points are earned by defeating opponents while playing as Azure Flames (0.50%), completing quests from the Daily Quest Giver (4-5%), and defeating The Prototype boss (5-13%).
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Ember Eruption has a large Area of Effect (AoE) and is difficult to avoid
- The Ultimate, Spite, deals substantial damage over time.
- The base moveset offers significant combo potential.
- Infernal Burn functions as a long-range attack.
- The burn status effect can disrupt inexperienced players.
- Effective in team fights due to AoE moves like Ember Eruption and Infernal Burn, and moves like Azure Grab and Ember Assault that can separate opponents.
- Ultimate moves possess good range and AoE coverage.
- Good overall combo potential, with moves having relatively low cooldowns.
- Even in Ultimate, there is some combo potential, Flamewave Burst (if you are close enough to the opponent) can allow you to combo into any other move in the Ultimate if you follow up with a front dash.
Cons
- The knockback distance of Infernal Burn can be inconsistent due to player latency.
- Peaking Scorch does not bypass block.
- Can be challenging for beginners, though basic combos are manageable.
- Ember Assault is easily punishable if blocked.
- Ember Eruption can be interrupted during its startup animation.
- No capability for true combos after Ember Assault's rework and Azure Grab's changes
Passives
Trivia
- Azure Grab was the first move in the game to be completely reworked from a previous concept.
- It replaced the original "Azure Burst," which was intended to grant the passive effect (now triggered by finishers) for an extended duration.
- The original Azure Burst move data might still exist and be obtainable via Private Server + commands, but it is reportedly non-functional.
- Infernal Burn was also completely reworked. It was originally a short-range AoE combo extender called Jet Burn.
- The Old Infernal Burn (Jet Burn) data might also be obtainable via Private Server + commands.
- The character Azure Flames (Dabi) being the brother of Split Ice (Shoto Todoroki) marks the first instance of sibling characters being playable in Heroes Battlegrounds.
- Azure Flames Blitz features one of the shortest cutscene animations among grab moves in the game.
- Azure Flames Blitz’s name is a misnomer, as the move is rather slow, despite having “Blitz” in its name.
- Peaking Scorch is based on Dabi's imitation/version of his father Endeavor's signature move, "PROMINENCE BURN". The move was previously named "PROMINENCE BURN" in-game.
- Similarly, Azure Flames Blitz was originally named "BLUE FLAMES BLITZ".
- The "X" shape formed by the flames on the user's torso during the Spite ultimate activation references Dabi copying his brother Shoto's "Phosphor" technique during their fight.
- During the Todoroki Family vs. Dabi fight in the manga, Dabi awakened dormant elements of his mother Rei's ice Quirk. This is referenced by the ultimate move Frostflame Eruption.
- The first variation of Ember Assault was potentially the first move added to the game designed to deal less than 10% damage (inflicting only minor burn damage).
- The music track used during the Spite ultimate is an excerpt from "All For One" by EpicPlay (specifically, near the end of the track).
- The character was initially named "Blue Flames" before being changed to Azure Flames.
- Ember Assault used to M1 extend into 2 debuffed M1s and had a tech to allow a true M1 reset, but was recently reworked to be a rushdown combo ender, gaining a new finisher animation and dealing proper damage as well
