I saw some people talking about the differences between the 2 games and I thought I would give my opinion (yap warning).
Basic Combat:
HBG wins
Really not a contest. Not needing to wait 2 whole seconds between dashes is a godsend. It just makes the combat so much faster paced and fun. Theres also the downslam issue: no countering downslams (which is the dumbest thing that can happen tbh)
Comboing is basically the same (both good) so it is part involving getting people into the combos that HBG excells.
Moves and Animation:
TSB (barely)
It depends on when the move was made really. HBG's quality HEAVILY depends on when it was made. There are some god-awful moves (look at blackout clutch and explosion combo for instance). Not only does blackout clutch look terrible, but it is also awfully inconsistent and buggy. Sometimes you can aerial downslam after it, sometimes you can't. The only move in TSB that has this problem is Prey's Peril (not teleporting correctly/opponent going over final hit). On the other hand, look at the masterpiece that is mastered azure flames/mastered hero slayer for beautiful animations and consistency.
On the topic of animations, there are finishers. Once again, TSB has concise and elegant finishers (most take less than 2 seconds to complete). On the other hand, HBG has a massive range in quality. For example, compare triple dagger throw's finisher to dagger cascade's finisher: its a world of difference and they almost feel like different games. Some of the finishers are LONG too (cough cough recipro assault).
Ultimate Modes:
HBG wins barely
Many people criticize HBG ults for not being well... ultimate enough. I think thats a good thing though as so long as your opponent is not stupid, your ultimate is not a free win button like in TSB.
First: the damage. Discounting true evil, which has variable damage scaling with the skills of you and your opponent, the most damage a move does is 1,000,000% with 55%. It has a crazy long startup and is mighty inconsistent if you are not RIGHT on top of someone. Compare it to TSB's speedblitz dropkick, which also does around 54% damage. This move can be used after m1s for a guaranteed hit. That is a world of difference for moves (not to mention one is 1-time use, and one isn't).
Theres also getting the opponent into the combo. In TSB, there are SO many moves that allow for a really easy combo start. Twinblade rush, speedblitz dropkick, brutal beatdown, solar cleave, sky snatcher etc. These moves are all characterized by massive hitboxes and significant travel distance, all very easily allowing for a hit. In HBG, there are no moves like that. 2 moves that come to mind are eruption dive, and peaking scorch, which are similar. However, eruption dive isn't a constant hitbox, as there are certain points where a grab will happen, meaning it isn't that easy to grab an enemy. Peaking scorch is very, very similar to these moves, as there is a very long hitbox that starts its move whenever an opponent is hit during the move. Except its blockable, so it isn't a reliable combo-starter.
There are also ult finishers in HBG, making it even better.
So HBG is just the better game, as it is generally more balanced and its content is constantly improving.
Yap session finished,
What do you think?
