As much as I love this character I feel like there is so much missed potential here as of right now.
I will start off by saying that I 100% love the thought behind turbine drive and jet stream granting easy access to air combo variants. However from what I can see, every character only has 1 main standout gimmick:
Base Deku and Vigilante has.... (I honestly don't know, maybe how every move hits off ragdoll but can we call that his standout gimmick compared to the others and considering the nature of this games combat? Help me out here)
Base and Mastery Stain has their signature bloodcurdle stun gimmick, land a pretty high risk high reward move that can maybe turn the tides of your fight by giving you straight up free access to your opponent after landing it and triggering the 2nd part.
Todoroki (and most definitely its future mastery) has a freeze gimmick, simple as that. No other character can do it.
Base and Mastery Dabi have their burn damage, except mastery dabi exclusively has an hp consumption for better damage/combos (Which I LOVE by the way but once again bad execution because the character is unbalanced).
Shigaraki has... nothing brah? Maybe you and Deku should get along more often with how much you two have in common. (OK SO EDITORS NOTE, I FORGOT TO INCLUDE HIS QUIRK DISABLE IN ULT, THAT IS VERY COOL AND WORTH MENTIONING EVEN IF ITS ONLY ONE MOVE IN HIS ULT OF ALL THINGS. IF ONLY HE COULD DO THIS WITH HIS BASE BUT ON A MUCH SMALLER SCALE MAYBE PEOPLE WOULD LIKE HIM MORE.)
Warp's gimmick is only seen in one move (and another in ult) but that doesn't mean it isn't worth mentioning, being able to use your surroundings to change the properties of your moves is a very cool function, I hope the mastery expands on this more.
Now back to Iida, something is different about him. With the direction he's in right now, he has TWO gimmicks: Air combos and moves that forces wake up to extend combos. I love both of these options but using both seems a little outrageous don't you think? It sounds impossible to properly and fairly balance a character with both of those gimmicks at once call me out if I'm wrong. But leaving the topic of character gimmicks and going on a little bit of a personal rant, I've said this to my friends a lot but it genuinely feels like the devs are spending the least amount of time on him. It started off really good with Recipro Assault, things got cooler with turbine drive, then a little bit boring with sound breaker in my opinion, and then the entire train just went off the rails, airborne, crashed through several trees, flew through an open McDonalds and blew up in the middle of the street with jet stream. That was when his first version of the full moveset was made and...it was awful. The character was terribly boring and just had a downgraded base stain 1234 playstyle but in a different color and no gimmick at all. The devs picked up on this and brought us a god awful jet stream "buff" to try and keep Iida mains at least a little bit happy I guess? Maybe it was to show the character wasn't completely gonna be a letdown. Fast forward later and it came, the miracle we waited for that was secretly hiding away in private server commands, Turbine Drive...? At least it WOULD'VE been a miracle if... they tested it properly? The move barely works half the time because people just get the wakeup armor and are able to just block or hit you while you're supposedly extending your combo. Ok, it's a rough draft after all that's okay, at least we still have turbine barrage to be used after Jet Stream which is cool right? Maybe if Jet Stream STILL didn't feel very uncomfortable to use.
Now I know it looks like I'm just here to bash the devs and say bad job to every little thing they do, that's not what I'm intending. I'm just here to point out that it feels like the love they had for Iida just gradually faded away and they decided to go work on other things and just leave him as an afterthought on every update. I can't even feel glad about Chronos because realistically it feels like the vfx and animation artists did all the work (as always, love you guys) and the scripters or whoever's responsible for the actual gameplay just slapped on a hitbox to your moving character that forces opponents into taking a terrifying 50 DAMAGE, (which probably explains the weird interaction where if you get hit during the startup the move looks like it cancelled and then it just triggers. All your opponent did was cancel the animation of it lol unless they ragdolled you but that literally happens with every move in the game so I can't say that they intended the move to be like that). I at least hope the next update is focused on him or maybe in the time between stain mastery's finished ult and Warp rework getting released which most like will NOT happen because they literally said Warp rework is already getting worked on...At least give my boy some new finishers and unique I.W.Os.
Maybe I'm thinking about this too hard, it's a early access character bro he's not even finished!!!!
